Deep dive into the journey of elite athletes competing on the global stage at Suncoast Credit Union Field.
Thirty athletes signed for WFS1. They arrived in Tampa from fourteen countries — from Katowice and Ostrava, from Milano and Leipzig and Colombes, from Brisbane and Buenos Aires and Santiago, from Mexico City and Ensenada and Cali Baja, from Montreal and London, Ontario, and from Denver, Dallas, Austin, Tucson, Orlando and Bradenton.
Most of them had already built careers in national team programs, collegiate systems and international federation competition. What none of them had was a professional series to play in. WFS1 was the first.
“Fourteen nations on one field, in one night, for the first professional flag football series ever staged.”
The Global Spine
The Ice Queens roster alone spanned eight countries: Poland, Czechia, Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Italy and the United States. H.E.R. built its identity around a Pan-American core — Canada, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, the Dominican Republic and the USA. The Glitter Bombs countered with a fast, deep American roster, plus Cuba represented through receiver Valerie Perez.
Veterans And First-Timers On The Same Field
The age range told its own story. Sarah Massucci took the field at 36 alongside 21-year-old Elisabeth Smidt of Austria. Natalia Olavarria (35, Chile) and China Torres (34, Argentina) brought a decade-plus of international experience; Julia-Marie Abbrederis (22, Austria) and Adrianna Cavalotti (22, USA) represented the generation that will define the sport's Olympic era.
Quarterback Room
Three primary quarterbacks ran the series: Lacey Abell for the Glitter Bombs, Haylie Young for H.E.R., and Marlee Marquez for the Ice Queens — each backed by secondary passers in Clara Beaudoin, Tori Brito and Kodie Fuller, giving all three clubs multiple looks under center.
